Posted : Friday May 2, 2008 12:32:03 EDT
About 75 soldiers from the Alabama Army National Guard’s 1103rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion will arrive home Friday after almost a year in Iraq.
A welcome-home ceremony was scheduled for Friday morning, according to a press release.
The unit mobilized in May 2007. After post-mobilization training, the soldiers spent about nine months in Iraq and provided support to Multi-National Division-Baghdad.
Their work supported more than 100,000 soldiers and civilians in 17 brigade combat teams, the release said.
The soldiers drove more than 1.9 million miles and delivered more than 354,000 short tons of supplies, 12.8 million gallons of fuel and 20.1 million bottles of drinking water, according to the press release. In addition, units under the battalion's command and control delivered and helped place more than 21,000 concrete barriers.
