DoD delays upgrade of military pay system
Posted : Friday May 16, 2008 13:03:40 EDT
A new system for managing pay and personnel actions on more than 1 million soldiers will be launched March 1, 2009, five months later than previously announced.
The Defense Integrated Military Human Resources System will not only consolidate databases for the active Army and its reserve components but will become the common record of pay and personnel for all the U.S. Armed Forces.
Originally scheduled for implementation Oct. 1, DIMHRS will be used by the Army to deliver pay and personnel services at the brigade and battalion levels. The system is Internet-based, and will be accessible to soldiers for self-service actions any time, any place.
The Army, with a pool of 1.1 million users, will be the first of the military services to adopt the system.
The implementation delay was ordered by the Defense Department to ensure that all operational testing requirements have been met at the time of full implementation.
