Health services application deadline extended

The application deadline for opting into the health service clinic commander and assignment selection process has been extended to July 15 to accommodate Nurse Corps, Medical Service Corps and Medical Specialist Corps majors awaiting release of the 2008 Army Medical Department lieutenant colonel promotion list.

The non-centralized medical clinic command board is slated to convene July 22 to consider officers for assignment to colonel (level 1) and lieutenant colonel (level 2) command positions that become vacant in 2009.

These positions are in addition to the billets that will be filled by the centralized command boards that meet this coming fall and winter.

The zone of consideration for level 2 commands will include promotable majors and lieutenant colonels from the branches cited above, as well as the Medical Corps.

The zone for level 1 command will include promotable lieutenant colonels and colonels from the same branches.

The previous deadline for submitting a memorandum of intent to compete was June 26, which would have placed Medical Department majors in the position of not knowing if they were eligible to compete for command.

Personnel officials expect that the 2008 lieutenant colonel list will be released before the new application deadline of July 15.

Lieutenant colonel-level clinic command positions slated for fill in 2009 are at Fort Monroe, Va.; Yong San, South Korea; Camp Shelby, Miss., and Mannheim, Grafenwoehr and Vilseck, German.

Colonel positions are at Redstone Arsenal, Ala.; Fort Detrick, Md.; SHAPE, Belgium; Carlisle Barracks, Pa.; Monterey, Calif.; Rodriguez AHC, Puerto Rico;, and Southern command headquarters, Miami.
