FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — A Fort Campbell official says some soldiers serving in Afghanistan will be coming home earlier than expected and won’t have to serve 15-month tours as previously scheduled.
Post spokeswoman Cathy Gramling said Thursday the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade will be serving only a 12-month deployment in Afghanistan.
Four brigades, including the 101st Combat, left earlier this year expecting to be gone 15 months. In April, President Bush announced the tours would be reduced to 12 months for troops headed to war after Aug. 1 because of the strain on soldiers.
Gramling said the other three brigades are still expected to be deployed for 15 months.
