SALINA, Kan. — Army officials say two bombs found behind a Salina business are harmless and can be scrapped.
The 500-pound bombs were discovered July 16, when a landscaper was mowing behind a business. He notified police, who called Fort Riley’s bomb disposal units.
Salina police say the bombs were sold to Salina Iron and Metal as scrap from the National Guard’s Smoky Hill range.
Fort Riley soldiers determined the bombs were training bombs, filled with concrete and not explosives. The bombs were left at the scrap yard.
Fort Riley’s bomb disposal unit has responded to about 50 off-post calls and 150 on-post calls this year.
