BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says an American soldier has died in a non-combat related incident in a northern Iraqi province.

The military said in a statement released today that the soldier died Thursday in Ninevah province while conducting an operation.

It did not provide more details.

The death brings to 23 the number of U.S. soldiers who have died in Iraq this month.
