FORT BRAGG, N.C. — The new commanding general of the 82nd Airborne Division is scheduled to arrive at his North Carolina post next month.
The Fayetteville Observer reported Wednesday that Maj. Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti officially will take command of the 82nd Airborne during a ceremony Oct. 1 at Fort Bragg.
Scaparrotti has been director of operations at U.S. Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. He is a former commander of the 82nd’s 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment.
The new general replaces Maj. Gen. David Rodriguez, who left July 21 to become senior military assistant to Defense Secretary Robert Gates. Rodriguez was promoted to lieutenant general.
Brig. Gen. Rodney O. Anderson has been acting commander of the division, which has about 20,000 paratroopers.
