LACEY, Wash. — Some Fort Lewis neighbors told a hearing in Lacey they don’t like Army plans to start test-firing artillery rockets that generate a sonic boom.
Some told the Tuesday night hearing that current testing of howitzers rattle their windows and scare pets.
After the environmental assessment of HIMARS training, the Army plans to start testing the mobile rocket system next summer at Fort Lewis.
Plans call for 54 rockets to be fired in a one-week period four times a year.
The Army also plans to cut down 41 acres of trees on the Army base for the firing range.
