If investigating felony-level crimes of Army interest or working in protective-service operations sound like appealing missions, the Criminal Investigation Command wants to talk to you.

The branch of the Army commonly known as CID is seeking qualified soldiers to fill the ranks of its special agents, the most highly trained soldiers in the unit.

CID special agents investigate crimes and provide high level security, and they work side by side with other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to solve serious crimes and help in rooting out terrorist activities.

Special agents make up several hundred of the CID’s 2,000 support and law enforcement personnel and many go on to become warrant officers.

Soldiers who become special agents get advanced training in specialized investigative techniques at the Military Police School at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and selected soldiers may train at the FBI National Academy, Metropolitan Police Academy at Scotland Yard, the Defense Department Polygraph Institute and the Canadian Police College.

Agents also have the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in Forensic Science from George Washington University.

To qualify, applicants must

• Be U.S. citizens, age 21 or older and able to speak and write clearly.

• A non-promotable sergeant with at least two years but not more than 10 years time in service.

• Have an ST score of 107 or higher – ST of 110 if tested prior to Jan. 2, 2002, and a physical profile of 222221 or higher, with normal color vision and no record of mental or emotional disorders.

• At least 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution – a waiver of up to half of this prerequisite may be considered if the soldier is favorably endorsed by the local CID office.

• A minimum of one year of military police experience or two years of civilian police experience – a waiver of this prerequisite may be considered if the soldier is favorably endorsed by the local CID office.

• Have suitable character established by a Single Scope Background Investigation leading to a Top Secret clearance, no record of unsatisfactory credit and no civil court or court-martial convictions.

• Be able to complete 60 months of service obligation upon completion of the Apprentice Special Agent Course.
