SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A chef and military chaplain is suing the Sioux Falls hotel where he worked, saying he was unlawfully fired because of his upcoming mobilization with the South Dakota National Guard.
Thomas Tedmon filed the lawsuit in federal court against John Q. Hammons Hotels Management, which owns the Holiday Inn City Centre.
According to the complaint, Tedmon told his employer in August he would be deployed to the Middle East next spring.
He said the Holiday Inn ended his employment as a chef the next month after working there for almost 10 years.
Tedmon is suing for lost wages and other benefits under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.
Neither the Holiday Inn nor the management company returned calls seeking comment.
