Soldier shot on leave is identified

A soldier from Fort Hood, Texas, who was home on leave from Afghanistan died Sunday after he was shot at a club in Spring Lake, N.C., just outside Fort Bragg, officials said Tuesday.

Spc. Charles Corrothers Clements, 27, of Baltimore was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.

Clements had been deployed to Afghanistan since June. He joined the Army in 2001 as a cannon crewmember and had been with 3rd BCT, 1st Infantry, since May 2007.

His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

The incident is under investigation. No other details were available Tuesday.
