HARRISBURG, Pa. — A central Pennsylvania soldier serving with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team has been killed in action in Iraq.
The state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs says 20-year-old Spc. Chad Edmundson, of Williamsburg, died Wednesday of wounds he received when an improvised bomb detonated near his unit while they were on a walking patrol.
Williamsburg is about 16 miles east of Altoona.
Edmundson was a member of the Lewistown-based 2nd Battalion, 112th Infantry. His death is the second in the 4,000-soldier 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team’s deployment.
About 500 soldiers from the Cambridge Springs-based 1st Battalion, 112th Infantry Regiment, are serving in Iraq with the brigade.
