June NCO forecast continues downward trend

Staff report
Posted : Tuesday May 26, 2009 13:42:20 EDT

June NCO promotions will continue a slide that began five months ago, and has yet to see the monthly total top the 3,000-level since January.

Cutoff scores and senior NCO sequence numbers released by the Army in mid-May authorize 2,214 promotions to the ranks of sergeant through sergeant major on June 1.

The total is the lowest since February, when only 1,800 soldiers were promoted, and one of the smallest in several years.

NCO promotions tend to vary throughout the year as they are based on actual and projected vacancies in career fields and specialties of the Enlisted Personnel Management system.

June cutoff scores authorize 583 promotions to staff sergeant, and 1,000 to sergeant.

Senior NCO sequence numbers call for five advancements to sergeant major, 101 to master sergeant and 525 to sergeant first class.
