FORT CARSON, Colo. — A Fort Carson soldier has died after being injured in Afghanistan.
Nineteen-year-old Pvt. Steven T. Drees was injured last week when his unit was attacked in the Konar Province of Afghanistan. Defense officials say insurgents used small arms fire and a rocket-propelled-grenade launcher in the attack.
Drees, of Peshtigo, Wis., died Sunday in a hospital in Germany. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, south of Colorado Springs.
Drees joined the Army in August 2008 and is the first casualty from his unit.
