FAIRFIELD, Maine — Friends and family members are gathering in Fairfield for a send-off for a Maine-based Army Reserve unit that’s headed for a second tour in Iraq.

The Maine National Guard said the 100 members of the 619th Transportation Company, based in Auburn and Dexter, will conduct route clearance and provide security for coalition forces.

Gov. John Baldacci, U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud and Maj. Gen. John Libby were among the speakers at the Saturday ceremony at Lawrence High School.

The company will travel to Fort Dix, N.J., for training before heading to Iraq.

The unit was first deployed to Iraq in 2004.
