SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — More than 360 South Dakota National Guard soldiers are preparing to head to the Middle East for nine months of duty in Iraq and Kuwait.
The soldiers with the 147th Field Artillery Battalion are part of a larger unit composed of more than 2,300 soldiers from five states.
The soldiers left for training at Fort Hood, Texas, in April. They recently finished that training and got a four-day pass to come home this week before heading overseas. They were returning Thursday to Hood.
