INDIANAPOLIS — The parents of an Indianapolis soldier who died last week in Iraq say he had been depressed and think he committed suicide.
The military says Army Spc. Chancellor Keesling died Friday in Baghdad. His family says he shot himself two weeks after he returned for his second tour of duty in Iraq and days after an argument with his girlfriend.
Gregg Keesling says his 25-year-old son had separated from his wife during his first tour in Iraq and was despondent over troubles with another relationship.
Jannett Keesling says her son had said he was going to talk with a chaplain, but doesn't know whether he ever did.
The military said Keesling's death was under investigation. He was assigned to the 961st Engineer Co. of Sharonville, Ohio.
