Posted : Monday Jun 29, 2009 5:35:25 EDT
The Army Reserve’s Noncommissioned Officer and Soldier of the Year “Best Warrior” competition will take place July 13 to 17 at Fort McCoy, Wis.
The top NCO and soldier will go on to represent the Army Reserve at the Army-wide NCO and Soldier of the Year Competition Sept. 20 through Oct. 2 at Fort Lee, Va. Organizers of the Reserve’s event expect 26 competitors. They will undergo rigorous tests including a written exam on military topics, M-4 qualification, urban orienteering, combatives and a physical fitness test. Competitors also will face selection boards that will evaluate their appearance, military bearing and knowledge in key areas. Half of this year’s competitors are veterans of Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait or the Horn of Africa.
Winners will be announced during an awards dinner on July 17 at the American Legion Post in Sparta, Wis. For more information, visit www.usar.army.mil/arweb/bestwarrior/pages/default.aspx or read the event blog at bestwarrior.wordpress.com.
