Capt. dies from Afghan bomb wounds

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Department of Defense says a soldier from North Carolina who was based in Germany has died from wounds sustained when a roadside bomb detonated near his vehicle in Afghanistan.
The military said 30-year-old Capt. Mark A. Garner of Surry County died Monday in Afghanistan's Argandab District. Garner's body was returned Wednesday to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
Garner was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, Joint Multinational Readiness Center, Hohenfels, Germany.
