ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A third man has pleaded guilty to being part of a ring that stole nearly $40 million worth of fuel from a military base in Iraq.

Michel Jamil, 59, pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Alexandria to conspiracy to steal government property.

The thefts occurred in 2007 and 2008 from Camp Liberty in Baghdad. Jamil, of Annandale, admitted he received at least $75,000 from the scheme, in which fraudulent paperwork was used to allow trucks to take the fuel, which was then sold on the black market.

Jamil faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 13.

Lee William Dubois and Robert Young earlier pleaded guilty in the same scheme. Another man, Robert Jeffery, has been charged and is scheduled to go on trial Aug. 10.
