Posted : Wednesday Jul 1, 2009 17:09:03 EDT
Maj. Gen. Dennis L. Via, an Army signals specialist nominated for promotion to lieutenant general and assignment as the senior communications officer on the Joint Staff, has been selected to receive the Roy Wilkins Renown Service Award from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
The award is presented annually by the NAACP to members of the armed forces for outstanding accomplishments in human relations, equal opportunity and civil rights.
Via, who recently relinquished command of the Communications and Electronic Command’s Life Cycle Management Command at Fort Monmouth, N.J., was cited for innovative leadership practices that facilitated diversity within the command, and in minority advancement and attainment of several key promotion goals.
Via, who has been nominated to become the director of command, control, communication and computers, J6, for the Joint Staff, will be presented the Wilkins Award July 14 in New York.
