Ex-Army surgeon facing probe leaves university

ST. LOUIS — A Washington University School of Medicine surgeon and researcher has resigned amid allegations that he falsified results of a study.
The university says in a statement that Dr. Timothy Kuklo submitted a resignation letter effective Sept. 30. He will have no clinical, research or educational duties during his remaining time at the university.
Kuklo has been the subject of federal inquiries into allegations that he falsified results of a study about a bone growth drug used to treat wounded soldiers. He performed the study before coming to Washington University.
The Army has contended Kuklo overstated the benefits of the drug, Infuse. Medtronic, the maker of Infuse, has paid Kuklo more than $800,000 in consulting fees in recent years.
