NCO promotion numbers take dip, but still high
Posted : Thursday Aug 20, 2009 14:42:39 EDT
Cutoff scores and senior NCO sequence numbers issued in mid-August authorize 4,540 active component promotions to sergeant and above on Sept. 1.
The monthly total is about 2,000 fewer than August, but still ranks as the second largest authorization since November 2008 when nearly 6,200 soldiers were promoted.
Cutoff scores call for 1,077 advancements to staff sergeant, and 2,789 to sergeant.
The soldiers were come from a pool of 18,394 promotable sergeants, and 21,736 promotable corporals and specialists.
The promotion totals for both ranks would be larger if more soldiers in shortage specialties, called STAR MOSs, were on the E-6 and E-5 recommended lists.
There will be 674 promotions to the senior NCO ranks on Sept. 1 as follows:
Five to sergeant major, leaving 555 names on the June 2008 list.
135 to master sergeant, leaving 1,633 names on the August 2008 list.
534 to sergeant first class, leaving 5,381 names
