September officer promotion forecast released
Posted : Saturday Aug 15, 2009 14:37:45 EDT
Nearly 700 active component promotions to the ranks of chief warrant officer three through colonel have been authorized for September, including an initial round of advancements off the new Army Competitive Category major and lieutenant colonel lists.
Included in the September promotion plan released by the Army in mid-August are 62 advancements to colonel for the basic and special branches; 154 to lieutenant colonel; 100 to major; 245 to captain, and 129 to the senior chief warrant officer grades.
The ACC major and lieutenant colonel lists were confirmed by the Senate before lawmakers left for their summer recess.
Promotions off the major list will begin Sept. 1, and will total 33 for the Maneuver, Fires and Effects functional category; 35 for the Operations Support group, and 26 for Force Sustainment.
Also on Sept. 1, there will be 43 MFE promotions to lieutenant, 28 for OS officers, and 18 for members of the FS category.
The Senate also has confirmed lists produced by 2009 Army Medical Department board that met in March.
Promotions off the lists will total 41 for the Medical Service Corps, four for the Medical Specialist Corps, nine for the Veterinary corps and 35 for the Nurse Corps. Dates of rank will be as follows:
MS – Aug. 1 for officers with sequence numbers 1 through 13, and Sept. 1 for officers with sequence numbers 14 through 43.
SP – Aug. 1 for officers with sequence Nos. 2 through 4.
VC – Aug. 1 for officers with sequence Nos. 1 through 4, and Sept. 1 for officers with sequence Nos. 5 through 9.
AN – Aug. 1 for officers with sequence Nos. 1 through 12, and Sept. 1 for officers with sequence Nos. 13 through 35.
The September promotion plan will complete the 2007 colonel lists for the Medical Corps and Dental Corps, and the 2008 lieutenant colonel and major lists for those branches.
Field-grade promotions for these branches should continue uninterrupted in October, as the 2008 MC and DC lists for colonel were released in January, and the 2009 lists for lieutenant colonel and major in June and July.
