Bragg soldier struck by lightning hospitalized
Posted : Monday Sep 28, 2009 19:06:30 EDT
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fort Bragg soldier was holding a child when they both were struck by lightning Friday afternoon.
Bragg officials said Monday that Spc. Rosa V. Sanchez is a personnel clerk assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 330th Transportation Battalion, 82nd Sustainment Brigade.
The Fayetteville Fire Department said Sanchez, 21, and the 18-month-old child were hit after shopping at a store. It is unclear whether the child is related to Sanchez. Fire officials said Sanchez was carrying the boy and an umbrella when she was struck.
Officials said another soldier, Spc. James Van Dorn, helped Sanchez after the incident but did not more provide details.
A UNC Hospitals spokeswoman said Sanchez is hospitalized in serious condition. The child is listed in fair condition.
