Special Forces training site work almost done

GRENADA, Miss. — Work is expected to be completed by the end of the year on 220-acre drop zone at Camp McCain for the training of Special Forces and paratroopers.

Maj. Ron Ford, director of plans, operations, training and security, says work began more than three years ago. He says dedication of the training area is expected sometime next year.

Camp McCain is a Mississippi National Guard training base on 13,000 acres in Grenada County.

Ford says the base already owned the land where the drop zone is located. He says base crews cleared the land of trees and put in plants and culverts that would control erosion.
