HASTINGS, Neb. — A squad of five Nebraska National Guard cooks will face six similar teams from around the country in the Guard's own pressure-packed cooking competition.
The 42nd Annual Phillip A. Connelly Award's National Level Food Competition is being held at the Greenlief Training Site near Hastings on Saturday.
The other six teams come from Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island and West Virginia.
The Nebraska Guard members are all members of the 267th Ordnance Company from Lincoln.
The teams will be judged as they use mobile kitchen trailers to prepare meals for 50 soldiers.
Criteria include cooking and sanitation procedures as well as adherence to Army regulations.
A Guard spokesman says the winning team is awarded a silver cup.
