Guard recruiter pleads guilty to fraud charge
Posted : Monday Oct 26, 2009 15:24:20 EDT
TRENTON, N.J. — A New Jersey National Guard recruiter has admitted defrauding a federally funded program that provides cash incentives to part-time soldiers for recruiting new members into the Guard.
Gregory Fletcher of Lower Township pleaded guilty Monday in state Superior Court in Mount Holly to theft by deception.
Under a plea agreement, the state Division of Criminal Justice will recommend that he receive three years’ probation, 50 hours of community service and pay $8,500 in restitution. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 11.
Prosecutors say Fletcher, 32, submitted false information saying three part-time soldiers had referred eight new recruits. He provided his own bank account number for direct deposit of the incentive payments.
