Posted : Thursday Oct 29, 2009 21:31:40 EDT
COVINGTON, Ky. — A soldier on leave from Iraq has been indicted on charges he killed his friend in a car wreck.
Riley Ealy, 26, of Crescent Springs was charged Thursday with second-degree manslaughter, first-degree wanton endangerment and drunken driving.
The Kentucky Enquirer reports he will be arraigned Nov. 9 in Kenton Circuit Court.
Investigators say he was drunk when he drove off a road before sunrise Sept. 3 and crashed into a tree, killing 25-year-old James Fry, of Walton.
Paul Dickman, Ealy's lawyer, said the soldier is a combat engineer who had been in Iraq for nine months and had won a Purple Heart.
The soldier was ordered to remain at Fort Campbell on the Kentucky-Tennessee line.
