AUSTIN, Texas — The Pentagon says two Texas National Guard soldiers died after a roadside bomb hit their vehicle in Afghanistan.
Staff Sgt. Chris N. Staats, a 32-year-old Fredericksburg native who lived in Boerne, and 28-year-old Spc. Anthony G. Green of Yorktown died Friday in the Wardak province. Green was a native of Matthews, N.C.
The soldiers were assigned to the 143rd Infantry Detachment in Austin.
The San Antonio Express-News reported that two other soldiers were injured in the attack.
Staats and Green were the 11th and 12th Texas National Guardsmen to die in Iraq and Afghanistan since Sept. 11, 2001, according to the newspaper.
