Gates puts 3-stars atop Afghanistan commands

Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced Thursday the reappointments of two three-star generals and changes at the top of two commands in Afghanistan.
Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell, the current commander of the Combined Arms Command at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., has been assigned as commander of Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan and commander of North Atlantic Treaty Organization Training Mission-Afghanistan.
The CSTC-A training mission is currently a two-star command headed by Maj. Gen. Richard Formica and does not include the NATO-A mission.
In addition, Lt. Gen. David M. Rodriguez will serve as commander of International Security Assistance Force Joint Command.
Rodriguez is currently serving as the deputy commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan.
