Soldiers who are interested in serving with the Army’s “Bomb Squad” should check out a dedicated Web site for the latest information on reclassifying to MOS 89D, explosive ordnance disposal.

The EOD recruiting page, operated by the Special Operations Recruiting Battalion, can be accessed at www.bragg.army.mil/SORB/SORB_EOD_QUALS_RECS.html.

MOS 89D is one of the Army’s priority specialties for enlisted soldiers, and typically offers top-level retention incentives and promotion opportunity.

Soldiers assigned to EOD teams are responsible for the identification, safe rendering and disposal of hazardous unexploded munitions and improvised explosive devices.

Teams also provide support to the U.S. Secret Service and State Department in protecting the president and other high-level officials while they are traveling abroad.

Basic criteria require that EOD applicants:

• Be eligible for a top secret security clearance.

• Have normal color vision.

• Wear the rank of sergeant or below.

• Have completed at least two years of active duty.

• Earn a GM score (designated “MAIN” on the enlisted record brief) of 105 or higher on the vocational aptitude battery.
