ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Pentagon says Fort Bragg soldiers have died in combat in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon said late Wednesday the victims were a 20-year-old soldier from New Mexico and a 28-year-old soldier from Iowa.

Capt. Daniel Whitten of Grimes, Iowa, and Pfc. Zachary G. Lovejoy of Albuquerque, N.M., died of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device Feb. 2 in Zabul province.

Officials say the soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, at Fort Bragg, N.C.
