2010 majors promotion list out on March 25

The much-anticipated 2010 Army Competitive Category major promotion list will be released on the morning of March 25, along with the annual Active Guard and Reserve sergeant first class list.

The major list was compiled by a board that met in October.

Upon release, the list will be forwarded to the Senate for review and confirmation.

The sergeant first class list, which contains the names of Army Reserve staff sergeants of the AGR program, was compiled by a board that met in February.

Promotions off the new major list cannot begin until confirmed by the Senate, a process that normally takes several weeks.

The fiscal 2009 ACC major list, which contained 2,050 names, was completed Feb. 1, just six months after being confirmed.

Promotions off the new AGR sergeants first class list can begin as soon as scheduled by the Human Resources Command.

The primary zone for the major board included all basic-branch captains with dates of rank of March 17, 2004 through Feb. 28, 2005.

Given the Army’s chronic shortage of majors, the Army has moved toward an average “pin-on” point of nine years of commissioned service for advancements to O-4, a few months earlier than just one year ago.

The primary zone for the Active Guard and Reserve board included Army Reserve staff sergeants with dates of rank of Feb. 19, 2007, and earlier.

In addition to the promotion review, the board screened certain AGR master sergeants for possible denial of continued service under the newly reinstated Qualitative Management Program.
