Army exceeds January recruiting targets

All three Army components exceeded their recruiting goals for January, the Defense Department has announced.

The active Army recruited 8,512 new soldiers, 101 percent of the goal of 8,393.

So far this fiscal year, the Army has recruited 22,974 new soldiers, 102 percent of its year-to-date goal of 22,512. The component’s goal for the year is 74,500.

The Army National Guard reported 4,402 accessions, 107 percent of the goal of 4,100. The Guard’s goal for the year is 60,000 recruits. Year-to-date numbers were not available as of Friday.

The Army Reserve brought in 1,517 new soldiers in January, 104 percent of its goal of 1,454.

The Reserve has recruited 7,480 soldiers so far this year, 122 percent of its year-to-date goal of 6,122.

The Reserve’s goal for the year is 20,000 new soldiers.
