FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A soldier put away 13 hot dogs Saturday to win a spot in a national eating contest held every July 4 at Coney Island.

Spc. Kristopher Adams won a 10-minute competition at Fort Bragg by out-eating 10 other soldiers and a retired sailor. Adams said his strategy was small bites so he wouldn’t have to chew so much.

Last year’s winner at Coney Island, Joey Chestnut of California, put away 68 hot dogs with buns in 12 minutes.
