Benning-based Ranger dies in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON — The Defense Department on Tuesday announced the death of a Fort Benning-based Ranger who was serving in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Anibal Santiago, 37, of Belvidere, Ill., died Sunday in Bagram, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained a day earlier in a noncombat related incident in Kwowst.

Santiago was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, out of Fort Benning.
