CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — A Fort Campbell soldier was arrested Thursday morning and charged with several DUI related charges in a crash that critically injured a Clarksville woman.
Joseph Pergram, 25, was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident-death or injury, aggravated assault, vehicular assault and reckless endangerment. His bond was set at $90,500.
About 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Pergram was traveling north on Tennessee Route 79, crossed the center line and hit the car of Lori Teague, head-on, according to an arrest warrant by Trooper Krystal Mathis of the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Teague suffered severe injuries and was taken by Lifeflight Helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, police said. Teague’s condition could not be confirmed Thursday morning.
Pergram fled the scene on foot following the accident, police said. He was found an hour and a half later in nearby wood by deputies, the warrant said.
Minutes before the crash the E-911 center had received calls concerning a man driving a black Chevrolet Suburban recklessly.
Police headed to the scene to be “on the lookout placed for a black vehicle driving erratically, but before we got our units out the crash took place,” said Ted Denny, spokesman for the Montgomery (Tenn.) County Sheriff’s Office.
When Pergram was located he was taken to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital for minor injuries.
Pergram had allegedly consumed the drug Alprazoldam, commonly known as Xanax, and beer while driving, according to the arrest warrant.
