ST. PAUL, Minn. — A former Army analyst whose security clearance was recently revoked has been arrested in Minnesota while trying to board a one-way flight to China.

The U.S. Attorney’s office said 26-year-old Liangtian Yang, also known as Alfred Yang, of Lawton, Okla., had multiple data storage devices, one of which contained a restricted Army field manual, when he was arrested Thursday.

Yang was charged in Oklahoma on Thursday with one count of theft of government property. He made his first appearance in federal court in St. Paul on Friday. He will return to Oklahoma for prosecution.

Prosecutors say Yang was a civilian analyst at Fort Sill, Okla., until Aug. 16, when his secret clearance was revoked because of alleged security violations.

If convicted, Yang faces a potential maximum penalty of one year in prison.
