Former guardsman dead in Hawaii murder-suicide

HONOLULU — Three people were found dead following an early Friday shooting that police suspect was a double murder-suicide.
The bodies of 43-year-old Clayborne Conley, 46-year-old Kristine Cass and her 13-year-old daughter, Saundra Cass, were found in a Makiki Street home near Round Top Drive.
Police said Conley apparently broke into the home and allegedly shot Cass, her daughter and dog before killing himself.
A handgun was recovered.
KITV reported that Conley, who did not live in the home, was a former Hawaii guardsman who was discharged more than three years ago.
Police said he had 10 prior arrests and four convictions for terroristic threatening, property damage, assault and violating a temporary restraining order that had been filed in 2006 by another woman.
Court records indicate Conley was sentenced to one year in prison and ordered to pay $3,200 in restitution, and that there were questions about his mental state in one or more of those cases, KITV reported.
Conley’s relationship with Cass was unclear.
Neighbor Valerie Guillermo said she awoke to the sound of a gunshot about 1 a.m. Friday, then heard more gunfire, a woman scream and a man swearing before the violence ended.
“I heard a man’s voice. He was swearing,” Guillermo said. “Then another shot and she said, ‘Stop! Stop! Help! Help! Stop! Then she went silent.
“It’s sad. Someone lost their lives and I couldn’t help,” Guillermo said.
Other neighbors heard the sound of breaking glass before the gunshots, police said.
