WASHINGTON — Sen. Ben Nelson has been named the 2010 recipient of the Harry S. Truman Award, the National Guard Association of the United States’ highest honor.
The Nebraska Democrat will receive the award Sunday during the association’s 132nd conference in Austin, Texas.
The award is given to individuals who have contributed to the security and defense on the United States. Previous recipients include former Presidents Nixon, Reagan and George H.W. Bush.
Nelson was nominated for the award by the Nebraska National Guard.
Nelson said the National Guard provides an important service for the U.S. and that he is proud to work on the Guard’s behalf.
He is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and chairman of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee.
