Two Germany-based U.S. service members died in separate accidents Saturday.
Army Sgt. 1st Class Salaam Brown, 38, died during a rafting trip in the Ammer River, according to a NATO School news release. Brown was assigned to a NATO School in southern Germany and went on the rafting trip with staff and family members.
German police in nearby Rosenheim, Germany, are investigating the death, according to Sgt. Maj. Ben Veerman, a NATO School spokesman. Veerman said the police report states Brown was wearing a safety vest.
Air Force Master Sgt. Benjamin J. Kelly, 34, died after being airlifted to a German hospital, said Senior Master Sgt. Stefan Alford, a spokesman for United States Air Forces in Europe. He worked in the inspector general’s office at USAFE headquarters at Ramstein Air Base, Germany.
Army officials in Garmisch, Germany, are investigating the incident because they are closest to the accident site, Alford said.
