CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — A Fort Campbell soldier has been indicted by a grand jury for severely injuring a woman, accused of driving head-on into her vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and pills.
Joseph C. Pergram, 25, is charged in Tennessee with DUI, reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, two counts of aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident.
Pergram was driving his SUV on U.S. Highway 79 on July 7 when he crossed the center line and hit the car of Lori Teague head-on, according to an arrest warrant by Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Krystal Mathis.
Pergram fled and was found by deputies 90 minutes later in nearby woods, the warrant said. He was under the influence of Xanax and beer, according to the arrest warrant.
Pergram was convicted of DUI in November 2009.
He will be arraigned in Circuit Court in September.
