20 senators form Military Family Caucus

Like their counterparts in the House, senators have formed a bipartisan military family caucus to focus on issues facing military families, and improve programs and services for them.
The group of 20 senators is led by co-chairs Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and Richard Burr, R-N.C.
According to a statement issued by the co-chairs, the caucus will focus on child care, education, spouse employment, health care, and the effects of multiple deployments on the mental health and well-being of spouses, caregivers and children.
Senators said they will work closely with the House Congressional Military Family Caucus that was formed late last year. That caucus has solicited input from military families in a variety of ways, and hosted a briefing of a study on the impact of deployments on families.
“The Senate Military Family Caucus signifies that we, as a group of senators, recognize a need to support military families and provides an avenue to push for legislation that will benefit these families,” Burr said.
“We recognize that when a service member puts on a uniform, the entire family sacrifices for our country,” Boxer said.
