Vet’s trial delayed over records issue

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. — A central Pennsylvania judge says the trial of an Iraq war veteran charged with killing two people during a sandwich shop robbery will likely be delayed until next year because his attorneys have had a hard time getting his medical and service records from the military.

Blair County Judge Jolene Kopriva made that assessment after a status conference Tuesday in the case of 30-year-old Nicholas Horner.

The Altoona veteran's family and friends contend he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder when he allegedly killed a 19-year-old clerk and a 64-year-old bystander while taking about $130 from an Altoona Subway store on April 6, 2009.

Horner's attorneys need his military records to bolster that defense.
