Military officials say a soldier from North Carolina was among four who were killed in an attack in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced Friday that 22-year-old Pfc. Matthew E. George of Grantsboro, N.C. died Aug. 31 in Logar province of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device.

The four were assigned to the 173rd Brigade Support Battalion, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Bamberg, Germany.
