Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates announced May 24 that the president has nominated these officers for promotion to brigadier general:

• Col. John W. Baker, chief, Commander’s Initiatives Group, U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort McPherson, Ga.

• Col. Margaret W. Burcham, division chief, Joint Capabilities Division, J-8, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

• Col. Richard D. Clarke Jr., at Joint Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N.C.

• Col. Roger L. Cloutier Jr., commander, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.

• Col. Timothy R. Coffin, deputy commander for operations, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/U.S. Army Forces Strategic Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.

• Col. Peggy C. Combs, chief, Full Dimension Protection Directorate, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, Washington, D.C.

• Col. Bruce T. Crawford, director, Coordination Group, Office of the Chief of Staff, Washington, D.C.

• Col. Jason T. Evans, executive officer to the assistant secretary of the Army, (manpower and reserve affairs), Washington, D.C.

• Col. John G. Ferrari, deputy commander for programs, Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan.

• Col. Kimberly Field, executive officer to the commander, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan.

• Col. Duane A. Gamble, assistant chief of staff, G-4, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg.

• Col. Ryan F. Gonsalves, executive assistant to the commander, U.S. Joint Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.

• Col. Wayne W. Grigsby Jr., director, School of Advanced Military Studies, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

• Col. Steven R. Grove, is deputy chief of staff, G-2, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.

• Col. William B. Hickman, military assistant to the commander, International Security Assistance Force, Afghanistan.

• Col. John H. Hort, chief of plans, G-3, U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort McPherson.

• Col. Christopher P. Hughes, special assistant to the commanding general, 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Stewart.

• Col. Daniel P. Hughes, deputy program executive officer, Enterprise Information System, Fort Belvoir, Va.

• Col. Daniel L. Karbler, chief of staff, U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence, Fort Sill, Okla.

• Col. Ronald F. Lewis, military assistant to the undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, Washington, D.C.

• Col. James B. Linder, chief of staff, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg.

• Col. Michael D. Lundy, deputy commander (rear), 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

• Col. David K. MacEwen, executive officer to the vice chief of staff of the Army, Washington, D.C.

• Col. Todd B. McCaffrey, executive officer to the director of the Army Staff, Washington, D.C.

• Col. Paul M. Nakasone, executive assistant to the commander, U.S. Cyber Command, Fort Meade, Md.

• Col. Paul A. Ostrowski, executive officer to the commander, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

• Col. Laura J. Richardson, chief, Senate Liaison Division, Office of the Secretary of the Army, Washington, D.C.

• Col. Steven A. Shapiro, chief of staff, U.S. Army Materiel Command, Alexandria, Va.

• Col. James E. Simpson, chief of staff, U.S. Army Contracting Command, Fort Belvoir.

• Col. Mark R. Stammer, commander, Operations Group, Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, La.

• Col. Michael C. Wehr, most recently served as director, cj-engineer, Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan.

• Col. Eric P. Wendt, is military assistant to the secretary of defense, Washington, D.C.

• Col. Robert P. White, executive officer to the commanding general, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Va.

Reserve officers

Gates announced May 25 that the president has made these nominations for promotion to the next rank and assignments for Reserve officers:

• Brig. Gen. Marcia M. Anderson to major general. Anderson is deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, Ky.

• Brig. Gen. William G. Beard to deputy commanding general, mobilization and reserve affairs, U.S. Army Pacific Command, Fort Shafter, Hawaii. Beard is deputy commanding general (troop program unit), U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne), Fort Bragg.

• Brig. Gen. Nickolas P. Tooliatos to deputy commanding general, (individual mobilization augmentee), U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Va. Tooliatos is assigned to the Control Group (Reinforcement), St. Louis.

• Brig. Gen. Jimmie Jaye Wells to commander, 75th Battle Command Training Division, Houston. Wells is commander, 7th Civil Support Command, and deputy commander, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, Kaiserslautern, Germany.

• Col. Margarett E. Barnes to deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Human Resources Command, Fort Knox. Barnes is commander (troop program unit), Forces Command Augmentation Unit, Atlanta.

• Col. Robert D. Carlson to commander, 372nd Engineer Brigade, Fort Snelling, Minn. Carlson is commander (troop program unit), Contingency Response Unit, Headquarters, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Washington, D.C.

• Col Scottie D. Carpenter to commander, 11th Military Police Brigade (Internment/Resettlement), Los Alamitos, Calif. Carpenter is chief of staff (troop program unit), 103rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), Des Moines, Iowa.

• Col. Allan W. Elliott to deputy commanding general, 108th Training Command (Initial Entry Training), Charlotte, N.C. Elliott is assistant chief, G-4 plans, operations and force projection (individual mobilization augmentee), Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4, U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort McPherson.

• Col. Thomas P. Evans to deputy commanding general, mobilization and training, U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center; and commander, 102nd Training Division (Maneuver Support), Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Evans is chief of staff (troop program unit), 98th Division Training (Initial Entry Training), Rochester, N.Y.

• Col. Janice M. Haigler to deputy commanding general, 311th Signal Command (Theater), Fort Shafter. Haigler is commander (troop program unit), 3rd Brigade (Small Arms Readiness Group), 70th Division (Functional Training), 84th Training Command (Unit Readiness), Fort Gillem, Ga.

• Col. Kurt A. Hardin to commander, 104th Training Division (Leader Training), Vancouver, Wash. Hardin is chief of staff (troop program unit), 104th Training Division (Leader Training), Vancouver.

• Col. Kenneth D. Jones to deputy commanding general, 377th Theater Sustainment Command, New Orleans. Jones is deputy commander (troop program unit), 103rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), Des Moines.

• Col. Christopher R. Kemp to commander, 359th Signal Brigade, Fort Gordon, Ga. Kemp is commander (troop program unit), 359th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade, Fort Gordon.

• Col. Michael A. Mann to commander, Deployment Support Command, Birmingham, Ala. Mann is division chief, detailed inspector general (troop program unit), 84th Training Command, Fort Knox.

• Col. Alan A. Stolte to deputy commander, U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command, Fort Bragg. Stolte is commander (troop program unit), 354th Civil Affairs Brigade, Riverdale, Md.

• Col. George R. Thompson to commander, 70th Training Division (Functional Training), Fort Knox. Thompson is commander (troop program unit), 1st Battle Command Training Group, 1st Brigade, 75th Battle Command Training Division, Houston.

• Col. Tracy A. Thompson to commander, 420th Engineer Brigade, Bryan, Texas. Thompson is commander (troop program unit), 300th Sustainment Brigade, Grand Prairie, Texas.

• Col. Kevin R. Turner to assistant chief of chaplains, mobilization and readiness, Office of the Chief of Chaplains, Washington, D.C. Turner is assigned to the control group (reinforcement), St. Louis.
