Reserves sergeant pleads guilty to conspiracy

MACON, Ga. — An Army Reserves sergeant has pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge after prosecutors said she took money from a contractor in Kuwait to defraud the government.

Prosecutors say 33-year-old Sgt. Amasha M. King of Forsyth pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Macon to one count of conspiracy to defraud the Department of Defense.

Prosecutors say King served at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait from November 2004 to February 2006. She received and processed contractor pay vouchers and invoices. Court documents say King took about $20,500 from a contractor to give its invoices priority. That allowed the contractor to be paid faster than normal and, ultimately, to bid for more contracts than it would otherwise have been able to finance.

A sentencing date has not been set.
