Obama nominates Shyu as Army acquisition chief

Staff report
Posted : Monday Feb 6, 2012 16:00:35 EST

President Obama has nominated Heidi Shyu to become the Army’s top weapons buyer.

Shyu took over the role as acting assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology last June, when Malcolm O’Neill resigned. She was his deputy at the time.

Once the Senate confirms her nomination, Shyu will be able to drop the “acting” from her title.

Before coming to work at the Pentagon in November 2010, Shyu worked as vice president of technology strategy for space and airborne systems at Raytheon, where she worked from 1997 to 2010.

While she was at Raytheon, Shyu served as vice chair of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board.

Shyu received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of New Brunswick, a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Toronto, and master’s and engineer’s degrees in electrical engineering from UCLA.
