CONCORD, N.H. — Gov. Chris Sununu is nominating the senior ranking officer of New Hampshire’s National Guard to be the state’s next adjutant general, overseeing the Army and Air National Guard and the state veterans’ cemetery.

Col. David Mikolaities, of Portsmouth, is a member of the Army National Guard and serves as the construction and facilities management officer.

His career includes multiple tours in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. He is an airborne, ranger, Special Forces qualified officer who has received the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantryman’s Badge among other honors.

The nomination was being made at Wednesday’s Executive Council meeting. A confirmation vote is likely to take place on Sept. 13.

He would succeed Maj. Gen. William Reddel III, who is resigning as of Sept. 30.
